Many are asking the question today, what is SEO? Many may know that it means “search engine optimization”, but what is that? To make it very simple it is nothing more than how we organize our web pages. The idea is to organize the pages so they rank higher when someone types a keyword into a Google search bar.
Your goal should always be to build your web pages in such a way as to make them as search engine friendly as possible. Search engine friendly means higher ranking and more traffic to our web pages. The whole idea is for your information to be higher on the results listed from the search. Also to be found in results that is relevant to our copy.
Here are some of the top things that will make your listings more SEO friendly!
Headlines:
Why is the headline important? The headline is used to determine what your information is about. If the headline describes in as few words as possible what is in your content accurately the more likely it will show up higher in the search results.
The search friendly headline sample that’s awesome: “Vitamin B puts off Alzheimer’s”. It is short and to the point assuming the article is about vitamin B. It will work for both the search results and for the people searching for information about Alzheimer’s.
Here is a non-friendly headline that will not work for search engines and will not work for people searching for your article or information: “Vitamins Come in the Mail”. Vitamins may show up in a search but a long ways down on the list so that no one would ever find your article. Mail would not show up at all in a search for Alzheimer’s. Search engines or people would never find this title in your Alzheimer’s article.
The Content Description:
The purpose of the description is to tell the search engines and people what is included in your content. The description should include words people search with to find your content but should sound normal.
The description should be carefully constructed by not putting in too many search words. Often the search engines algorithms will see your description with too many keywords. They call this “stuffing” and this can have an impact on where your content shows up in the search engine results.
This Description Was Very Helpful:
“Watch the automotive GPS demonstration. See how easy and fun finding your way to the destination can be with a navigator”.
Now this description is simple and to the point. It provides information about what is in the article in a way that both the search engines and people can find it.
This Sample Description Was Not Helpful:
“People in the US navigate with GPS while on vacation”.
This description would not be found helpful because the context of the description is about vacation and not how to use a GPS. People looking for information about vacations would see this article and be unhappy with it because it is not about vacations.
Video and Images and their File Names:
The algorithms used by search engines do not have the ability to look at videos or pictures and be able to tell what they are about. They do this by reading the file name. A file name is “img648.gif means nothing; a file name like “auto-GPS.gif” will give the search engine something to work with.
Keep this in mind while adding content to the internet. These tips do work well, but you do not want to mislead the search engines or people by making them think the content is about another subject.
